How to review books on Instagram or TikTok

You do not need to squeeze an entire novel into 45 seconds. Give viewers the feeling of the book, your honest take, and a reason to keep watching.

Choose one clear promise

Before recording, finish this sentence: “Watch this if you want to know…” Maybe the romance works, the mystery drags, or the hype is actually deserved.

Pick one angle and stick to it. One strong opinion is much easier to remember than ten mini-thoughts racing past in under a minute.

  • Open with your verdict or biggest reaction.
  • Say and show the book title and author.
  • Give one or two clear examples without spoilers.
  • Finish with who will love it—and who should skip it.

Try this four-part video recipe

Use four quick beats: hook, context, proof, recommendation. Grab attention, explain what kind of book it is, back up your opinion, then help the viewer decide.

For example: “Want aliens without laser battles? This first-contact story cares more about language than war. The middle is slow, but the strange payoff is worth it. Try it if you like thoughtful science fiction.”

Be specific without spoiling the book

You can prove your point without giving away the big twist. Talk about the writing style, short or long chapters, emotional punch, point of view, or how quickly the story gets moving.

If you truly need a spoiler, warn people clearly and give them a moment to flee. ReadOrbit also lets you mark the written review beside your video as a spoiler.

Clear beats fancy

Good light, clear sound, and readable captions matter more than expensive gear. Hold the cover still for a second. Put the title in the caption too, because plenty of people watch with the sound off.

Got a free advance copy or payment? Say so where viewers can see it. A quick disclosure keeps the review honest and your audience on your side.

Link your Instagram or TikTok review on ReadOrbit

You can edit the review if your opinion changes—books sometimes improve after a good night’s sleep. Keep the social post public so other readers can watch it.
