Effective 1 September 2026
Privacy policy
This policy explains what this ReadOrbit server knows about you and what it does with that information. The person or organization operating this server is responsible for that data.
Information we collect
- Account details: when you sign in, Google provides a stable account identifier, your name, and verified email address. Your email is not displayed publicly.
- Reading activity: books you save, chosen editions, reading status and progress, ratings, reviews, video links, review reports, and recommendation feedback.
- Technical information: necessary sign-in and session cookies. The server uses your IP address and browser identifier to limit abuse and create cookie-free traffic counts. It immediately converts them into a protected code for analytics rather than storing the raw values. The hosting provider may also keep ordinary server logs.
How we use it
We use this information to sign you in, provide your library and recommendations, publish and moderate reviews, count visits, visited page paths, viewed books, and external referring sites, distinguish likely bot families from other traffic, prevent abuse, maintain security, troubleshoot problems, and operate and improve ReadOrbit. For referrers we keep only the site hostname, not its path or query string. Analytics page paths also exclude query strings, and we do not use your data for targeted advertising.
What other people can see
Your display name, ratings, review text, spoiler label, and any review video link are public. Your email, saved books, and reading progress are private. Recommendation feedback is stored without your account ID.
When information is shared
Google processes information when you choose Google sign-in. Hosting providers may process data needed to run this server. We may disclose information when required by law or reasonably necessary to protect the service and its users. We do not sell personal information.
Links to Google, Open Library, or other websites are governed by those services’ own privacy policies.
Cookies
ReadOrbit uses only cookies needed to complete Google sign-in, keep you signed in, and protect account actions. Temporary sign-in cookies last about 10 minutes. A login session can last up to 30 days. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
Keeping and deleting data
We keep account and reading data while your account exists. Protected analytics visitor codes are kept for up to 90 days; anonymous daily totals may be kept longer. You can download your profile, library, progress, and reviews from My profile. You can also delete your account there. Deletion removes your sign-in identity and personal reading state; published reviews are replaced with a deletion notice, and necessary anonymized moderation records may remain. Backups and security records may remain for a limited period before they are overwritten.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including protected session cookies and access controls, but no internet service can guarantee complete security.
Your choices and rights
You can change your public display name, export your data, remove reviews, or delete your account from Settings. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the use of your personal information. Contact the person or organization that provided this ReadOrbit server to make a request.
Changes
We may update this policy when the service or its data practices change. We will change the effective date above when we do.
