The premise of Seveneves is instantly gripping: the Moon is suddenly destroyed by an unknown cosmic force or alien entity, leaving humanity with no explanation and no warning. Beyond serving as a terrifying reminder of the vast, unpredictable nature of the universe—and offering incredible potential for a prequel—this setup shifts the story’s focus entirely to survival in the aftermath. Stephenson’s exploration of the physics behind a shattered Moon and its catastrophic effects on Earth is endlessly fascinating, while the tactical use of genetic engineering to preserve the human species adds a deeply compelling layer to the narrative. I really liked this book!
